Challah Bread

The second type of bread I am going to make is challah. Challah is a Jewish bread and is also called khale (eastern Yiddish)berches (Swabian), barkis (Gothenburg), bergis (Stockholm), chałka (Polish) and kitke (South Africa). It is eaten on the Shabbat and on other Jewish holidays (only not Passover). Challah is eaten at the beginning of Shabbat and the blessing "Baruch atah Adonai, eloheinu melech ha'olam, hamotzi lechem min ha'aretz" is recited before the challah is eaten. Challah is made using eggs, flour, salt, water, yeast, and a sweetner. After the dough has rested it is divided in three sections and braided.
